Esther, Ezra, Nehemiah. Information of the building of this second Temple. Cyrus king of Persia (son of Astyages and Esther), heard the word of the Lord by Jeremiah telling him to proclaim to the people that he would build the Lord a house in Jerusalem.
Nehemiah end note in Companion Bible page 653. Dr. Bullinger feels that the Temple was started 454 BC and dedicated 405 BC.
AD 691 Dome of Rock, Muslim Temple built.
Wailing Wall, part of second Temple left, Jews believe (possibly wrongly) that the Shekina Glory of God will not depart this wall.

Ezk. 43:4 The Glory of the Lord comes into the house of God (Millennium).
In 168 BC the Syrian king Antiochus 1V, desecrated the Temple (set off the Hasmonean revolt), by offering sacrifices to Zeus. Three years later Maccabaeus ritually cleaned the Temple.
In 54 BC Crassus plundered the Temple treasury, which Pompay, 9 years earlier had left intact out of respect for the sacredness of the place. Herod the great undertook the rebuilding of the Temple (20 BC), on an enlarged site. A golden eagle, symbol of Roman power was placed on the gate, outraged Jews shattered it and were executed. Work was still unfinished when Roman legions under Titus levelled Jerusalem in AD 70.

Dome of the Rock: Shrine in Jerusalem. Built between AD 685 and AD 691 by the caliph “Abel al-Malik ibn Maarwan", not as a mosque for public worship, but as a shrine for pilgrims. The Dome is more typically Roman or Bysantine than Islamic. Wooden Dome – 60ft approx. diameter. It is the oldest Islamic monument (still standing). The rock over which the shrine was built is sacred to both Muslims and Jews.
To Muslims – it is the site from which the prophet Muhammad, founder of Islam, ascended to Heaven. (In a recent television documentary on Jerusalem it was said that the Islamics believe this rock was where Abraham offered Ishmael).
To Jews – it is the site at which it is thought (we believe wrongly), Abraham the first patriarch and progenitor of the Hebrew people, prepared to sacrifice his son Isaac. (We believe the site where Isaac was offered for sacrifice, is more likely to be where Our Lord was crucified).
However, Scripture makes clear that Almighty God has stated that He wants His Name and dwelling in Jerusalem (see all references): Deut. 12:5, 12:11, 12:21, 16:2, 16:6, 16:11, 26:2, 2Chron. 6:6, Neh. 1:9, Psms. 46, 47, 48, Isa. 1:26, Isa. 60:14, Jer. 3:17, Ezk. 48:35, Matt. 5:35 & Matt. 23:37)! (See: Jerusalem).
Also; the establishment of the location of the next Jewish Temple! (The Jewish Temple's Purpose and Meaning), and that will be in the Temple described by Ezk. 35-48! The Temple dimensions will be ¹/7th larger (Ezk. 40:5) than Solomon’s; and the number 8 therefore is one of the Gematria number of Jesus the Christ; i.e. 888; and the 8th day of Jehovah God!
