God sent a big fish, some call it a whale, to swallow Jonah and to save him from drowning. While in the belly of the big fish (whale), Jonah prayed to God for help, repented, and praised God. For three days Jonah sat in the belly of the fish. Then, God had the big fish throw up Jonah onto the shores of Nineveh.
The short story has much to teach children in terms of moral lessons that they can apply to their lives. The main lesson is to trust the Almighty and have faith in him as he has planned everything for everyone, and in the end, everything will be fine, if they trust and obey the Lord God.
When the Jews asked Jesus for a sign of His Divinity; He said; “you will have no sign, other than the sign of Jonah”; who was in the belly of the great fish for 3 days, and 3 nights! (Matt. 12:38–42).
