Jericho

Question: Why did Joshua destroy Jericho?

As an ancient Pagan city (the moon god “Yareakh”), and as a Canaanite (Nephilim) centre of corruption, it was a direct challenger to the God of the Hebrews, who had started His campaign to enter and subdue the opposition to His occupation of the “Promised Land”!

In so doing with the Hebrews in tow, He showed His great strength, and method of overcoming all the resistance and fortification that Jericho was protected by!

The Hebrews were also being given a strong lesson to enable them to trust their God (by Faith), and how to overcome future enemies they were going to encounter as they made progress in the occupation!

The reputation of their God was also enhanced in the land as all the other occupants saw and learned of their power in conjunction with their God (when they obeyed)!

Despite all the power that Almighty God showed to the Jews, they were not faithful to their God, as later history showed, and as is summarized in Malachi.
