God's Promise To Israel That They Would Survive!
Question: When did Jeremiah prophesy about the destruction and exile of Israel? Did he witness it or was he exiled himself?
The Jeremiah references, are initially referring to the Babylonian exiles, see Chp. 29.
The promise of return is made by God in vs. 10–14, and the dispersion to many nations to be a “reproach” in vs. 18–19.
In the principle of “filling full”, of which there are many in Scripture, Chps, 30–31 are detailing the Restorations from Babylon, but also future restoration, post the “diaspora”, which is given as “the time of Jacob’s trouble” (Chp. 30:7). God describes in detail why He had so dealt with Israel that way in Chp. 30:7–24; and states (using the New American Standard Bible); “In the Latter days you will understand this”; which must refer to Zech.12–10!
Chp. 31 details the remnant of Israel saved, and shows the gladness of God in so doing, and is thus described in vs. 1–40 which is joyful reading, and is finished with the comment from God that “it shall not be destroyed again”.
It is well known by Bible students that Israel is a special target for destruction by Satan and that Satan knows that if he succeeded in that endeavour, he would have broken the Word of God that “Israel will never be destroyed”. Chp. 31:37 is confirmation of God’s statement and Promise; Thus says the Lord: “If Heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the Earth searched out beneath, I will cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done”, says the Lord.
