Fasting and Old and New Testament

Question: Where in the Bible does it say you can fast whenever you want?

Google: What are the Biblical rules for fasting?

But Biblical fasting didn't usually mean going without food or drink 24/7.  The Jewish custom was to fast during the day but eat and drink as soon as it was dark.  Jesus encouraged in his followers an intentional approach to fasting as a spiritual tool, not a Biblical Law.

Comment:

An example of the “spiritual tool” is Matt. 17:16–21; when fasting, and prayer for power from God was needed to eliminate the demon.

Matt. 6:16–18, shows that it should be done discreetly, and not for show!

Jesus, during that time, was talking to Israel only, and was reiterating the Jewish Laws given to Moses; called “Biblical Judaism”.
